“Morning” short avaliable

September, 26 — “Morning” premiere went very well. Photos are avaliable here. Most of the 30 people liked the movie and they liked all the old stuff either.

Now everybody can see the film: download it (better quality) or watch it on our site (easier). And we won’t mind if you tell us how much you liked or disliked the film here.

Action Movie. Filming. Day 1

As far as we don´t have a title for our upcoming action short, we´re just gonna call it Action Movie. So the first day of shooting went very well. The best thing was that we shot the most complicated scene in the whole movie. The car was chasing the motorcycle and they shot each other with an assault rifle and a pistol.

Cayenne & Honda

Our cinematographers Ivan and Kostya were belt up in the back of the van and shot the bike and the car from there.

Morning — a new short

We are currently shooting the new short Morning. It’s about a guy who wakes up after some party and tries to remember what had happened there.

We’ve already shot about a half of the needed material. This Sunday we plan to complete the shooting process and start post-production. The short is going to be released in early August.

Bedhead (1991) — a short film by Robert Rodriguez

For those who are either too young to have seen or too old to remember :-) An 8-minute short film Bedhead (1991) was shot with an 8-mm camcorder and won a lot of small film festivals.

To Each His Cinema

To Each His Cinema (Chacun son cinéma) is a collective film of 33 shorts directed by different directors about their feeling about cinema. I liked films made by Lars von Trier, Takeshi Kitano and Zhang Yimou.

The easiest way to draw a muzzle flash

It took me 20 minutes to make it using Adobe Photoshop + After Effects. It’ll look better with smoke and shell flying from the pistol. And, yeah, the last two flashes are too far from the barrel :-)

Blue-Tongue Films Studio

Here is a British independent studio Blue-Tongue Films. Those who visit Future Shorts or just like to watch movies on YouTube could have seen their short film “Spider”.

Except “Spider” these guys make feature films (you can watch trailers on their site) and music videos. They also shoot some shorts. I liked “Lucky”. It could be useful for young filmmakers to watch it in the perspective of how it was made.

Making of the new short “Case”

Making of “Case”

This photo is some sort of a distillation of the whole filming process: bunch of people gather around a small object and do some strange looking things to make it appear nicely in the frame.

The Circumstances (production journal)

The CircumstancesMany people remember the first Russian j-horror “Dead Daughters”. After its release in 2007 there were two common opinions: some thought that director Pavel Ruminov was a genious and that he was the only hope of Russian cinema. Others considered him to be a self-enamoured, mentally unbalanced and mediocre. I wish more people watched “Dead Daughters” irrelative of the director.

This fall the new movie directed by Ruminov is going to be released. It’s a romantic comedy and that’s the only fact known about this movie. Even more so it’s being filmed right now.

“The Circumstances” has its blog on LiveJournal, in which one can find photos, storyboards and other interesting materials. Most of that information is presented in English.

My Name Is Bruce Movie Trailer

I’ve always loved Bruce Campbell. Since the first time I saw The Evil Dead and then Army of Darkness and that TV series about Xena. And I’m glad that Bruce is going to release his new movie soon where he plays a lead role. It’s titled My Name Is Bruce. And here is its trailer.

Birthday Premiere Results

In January 18 “Birthday” was screened and about 30 people came to see it. Many of them liked it — so they said.

In addition to “Birthday” some older shorts of Flying Sugar Studio were shown: Blind Game, Baby Carriage, C and P and Butter & Bread.

During the next week we’ll make some final changes to the film (mainly to its sound) and put it to this site. We’ll let you know when it happens.

You can find photographs from the premiere here:

“Birthday” Premiere

Julia is drinking juiceIn January 18, 2008, on Friday, at 8:00pm MSK “Birthday” premiere will take place. It’s been a long time since production of this short film began (almost a year).

We ask everybody who wants to go the premiere tell us about it in comments or in a letter, because “Cooluar” club where everything is going to happen is not a very big one.

Until that you can watch movie trailer or take a look at movie stills. And also you can think out some occupation yourself :-)

The address and how to get to the premiere. Read More →

Birthday Sound Recording

Today I gave the beta version of Birthday to Misha (who is a sound editor). He watched it and said that it was too hard to him to do. We don’t pay anybody so that sounds reasonable :-)

Now me and Dan are going to do all the sound editing.

That’s gonna be tough, but we’ll do our best to finish everything before the 2008.
